What to do in Passo Tonale in Winter
For ski and snowboard lovers, the Tonale–Pontedilegno–Temù Ski Area offers 100 km of interconnected slopes across two stunning valleys. With 30 ski lifts and guaranteed snow, the area reaches up to 3,000 meters at the Presena Glacier, where skiing continues well into spring. From here, one of the longest slopes in Europe begins: an 11 km non-stop run down to Ponte di Legno.
A pristine alpine setting is the perfect backdrop for many winter activities: from peaceful snowshoe hikes through quiet, scenic valleys to exciting ski mountaineering on the Adamello Glacier. For thrill-seekers, there’s also freeriding, ideal for those who prefer exploring untouched nature away from the groomed slopes.
For lovers of the wind and speed, snowkiting at Passo Tonale is an unmissable experience. Learn and enjoy this adrenaline-filled sport on the dedicated field just below the San Bartolomeo Hospice. And for those who dream of flying, breathtaking helicopter tours depart from the local helipad.
In the forests and clearings of Vermiglio, 20 km of trails await at the Cross-Country Ski Centre. Try your hand at sleddog with the Italian Sleddog School led by Armen Khatchikian. Even children aged 10 and up can take part in this unique experience with Siberian huskies. Looking for even more fun? Hop on a snowmobile—either on a special circuit or as part of an organized tour that ends with a traditional dinner in a mountain hut.
Night skiing takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM on the Valena slope. Snowboard enthusiasts can enjoy the Tonale Snowpark, located along the Valena chairlift. It features areas for expert riders, beginners, and a ski cross course. Fully south-facing and groomed daily, the park is sunny all day and guarantees top-quality structures. Open every day during winter from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Fantaski is a snow playground for kids of all ages, open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the winter season. (More info)
After a full day on the slopes, it’s time for some après-ski! Enjoy music and a vibrant atmosphere that moves from the mountain huts to the valley floor. Once the skis come off, the fun continues with happy hour, dancing to the latest hits, and sipping colorful cocktails while waiting for dinner.
